RD VOTE 2010

About this page
I love the city of Red Deer, where I was born and raised. I’m also generally uninformed about local politics. I don’t subscribe to the news in print, and I digest most of my local and international news online.
I want to know as much about the candidates in vote 2010 so I can make an informed decision at the upcoming poll. I assume that, like me, many in Red Deer are interested in the election, but don’t know where to start or how to find out about candidates. This page is my way to kill two proverbial birds with one metaphorical stone: you and I can learn as we go.
After a couple hours of googling and trying to find out all the information I could, I decided to email each candidate to ask them 10 Questions I thought would help me determine where to direct my vote.
The Process
- I don’t plan to publicly endorse any candidate for Council
- All candidates for City Council were contacted and asked to respond to the same 10 Qs
- I mixed the Qs up a bit for the 2 Mayoral candidates
- Candidates who’ve joined the fun will have As published starting 28 September, a City Council interview published each successive day
– a note about grammar (since some readers have asked): I’ve published the interviews as they were submitted by the candidates. I’ve chosen in a few instances to lightly edit grammatical errors where I felt the changes were necessary for clarity’s sake
- Candidate interviews will be featured in the order their As came back to me

Glad to hear it, Kirk. Thanks for stopping by.
I really appreciate your 10 Questions of the Red Deer City Council candidates. I used these responses as one of the major factors in preparing to vote on 18 Oct. Thank you for making this information readily available.
Wow. You’re welcome, Wayne. Glad it was helpful! I did the same thing… voted based on the candidate responses.
Thanks for this, Andrew. Quality information on municipal candidates’ platforms and agendas is notoriously hard to find; it’s great that you’ve taken the initiative to compile this.
Much appreciated,
Andrew Wiebe
Glad you stopped by, Andrew. The notorious info-gap was my impetus to Q.
Andrew,
I appreciate your efforts to get more public awareness for the upcoming election. Your Q and A’s to candidates will be a great resource for voters.
Best Regards,
Chris Stephan – for City Council
Andrew,
I’ve been working on your questions in my spare time. I’ll be sure to have them to you before the 28th. I enjoyed your play the other night. It was a great evening. Well done.
Cheers, Paul.
