Order Another

Sit down
across the table from me
count out the nickels and dimes
between us
see if we can afford the luxury of

We might hop through memory
instead of from errand to errand
gratuitously checking off the list of
appearances; the weekly reps
of services
sound bytes
shaking of the hands

Spend our time
until we wring out the last drop

Heck, it’s only August
and already the retail giants
roll out
Christmas trees
and decorations —
a fact I shook my head at
between parking lots

Help me capture some of the sand
slipping between my fingers
through the broken hourglass
try as I may to stop it

I will need  vessels
bring not a few

The honey coloured empty in your hand
a good start
