Staring at the Sky

Staring at the Sky

The stars in their handiwork see
what you cannot
cast light into the
shadow
where memory, back against the
fleshy wall of thought
catches its breath
hides

Before the memory can run
swift, fleet
Cassiopeia winks a diversion
Orion, by his everlasting arm, pulls back the bow
sends out an arrow to pierce your mind

And you
refreshed in the silence and darkness
after the swift, stunning barrage of light
brush against it

Remembrance
once futile
neither bitter nor sweet
one fold in the pleated robe of time
adorning the entire world
