To See

Look as I may
Look as I might
The blinds are closed
They’ve blocked my sight
The future’s grim
Horizon bleak
I did not see
I did not fight

But now I grasp
My limits strained
Lurching, longing
Feeling pain
Then hope’s embrace
It comes my way
A joyous song
A sweet refrain

And when it does
The birds they sing
The air is fresh
The grass is green
My vision, it
Is clear as day
I’m more alive
The more I lean

Then rest it comes
It bids me dine
Desert and tea
A cup of wine
And so I stay
I look outside
I’ve come to see
This life is mine
