World renowned filmmakers …
The past week has been an exciting time of connection for me as I travelled to the States for two very different conferences that capture two main focuses of my work. I spent a few days in Vegas at NAB 2016, a conference that brings together filmmakers and new technology from around the world.
It was exciting to pound the pavement for our film She Has A Name and to explore marketing and distribution options for the film. Along with my brother Matt (the co-director and editor for SHAN) I also met with and learned from filmmaking giants, like Oscar-winner Ang Lee (Life of Pi) and renowned editors Stephen Mirrione (The Revenant) and Hank Corwin (The Big Short).
For me, there’s nothing like learning about the creative process and to hear stories from a life of work by such incredible creatives to fuel my own passion.
… and justice seekers
It was the same as I attended International Justice Mission’s Global Prayer Gathering in Washington DC to cap off the busy week. It was incredible to hear brave field workers share stories from the field about rescuing slaves from brick kilns in India, securing justice for widows whose property is stolen in Uganda, and the challenges faced rescuing boys as young as 6 who are forced into slavery on Lake Volta in Ghana.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have shared lunch with an undercover investigator from Guatemala who helps capture criminals who violently abuse children. Thank God brave people like him exist.
Wherever we are in the world, there are fascinating people doing incredible work. Let’s take a cue and be like them!
