When I first wrote She Has A Name for the stage I simply needed to confront, for myself, the terrible reality of human trafficking.  To humanize it.  To examine it, and to find a way to try to understand the world of just one of its victims.

Of course there was the hope, as a writer, for the work to be produced and for audiences to similarly grapple with the subject matter.  My intent was to bring the reader or viewer to the same place I came to when I first encountered the shocking truth that children around the world are brutally, mercilessly commodified in the sex trade.

Fast forward about 6 years, and we’re approaching the Global Launch of the film adaptation of my play. I must admit, it’s somewhat of a “pinch me” moment as a writer, that the film will be screened and be available online in early December.

We’re opening the film in Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa; London, England; Belfast, Ireland; and Red Deer, Alberta on December 2, 2016 which is the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery.  The film expands to screenings in Melbourne, Paris, Berlin, Ottawa and Courtenay through December 10, which is the UN’s Human Rights Day.

I’m thrilled to share with you that 20% of all sales during this release window will be directed to She Has A Name’s global anti-trafficking partners to Fund Freedom. For me, this is what’s it’s all about, seeing stories of despair being transformed into stories of hope — and you will be doing just that, funding freedom when you rent or purchase the film.
